Land Identity & Narrative Spine
Adventureland in Disneyland Paris could have been very different. Early plans for the area suggested a broader Indiana Jones mini-land, but in the end only a single coaster was built. This concept returns to that original direction, expanding the area around Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril into a more immersive land that tells one cohesive story across three different attractions.
The central idea is simple: guests are invited to join Indiana Jones on an expedition into the Temple of Peril. Rather than one standalone ride, the entire area becomes part of a shared archaeological adventure, with each attraction revealing a different side of the same story world.
By building out the temple, excavation camp, and surrounding pathways as one connected environment, the Indiana Jones section becomes less like a ride on the edge of Adventureland and more like a fully formed destination within it.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril
This is the existing ride: a fairly simple but enjoyable coaster built around the idea of an ancient temple being explored by Indy. In this concept, the attraction remains in place, but the surrounding story and the ride’s internal theming are significantly strengthened.
The basic premise stays the same - guests board a rickety minecart and head into the temple to assist with an excavation. The difference is in how fully the temple is realized. Scenic work, lighting, fire effects, and layered environmental storytelling would make the coaster feel as though it passes through a much larger, more dangerous complex than it does today.
Guests would be positioned as members of Indy’s team, heading deep into the temple on a high-risk journey through newly uncovered chambers. The goal is not to reinvent the attraction completely, but to “plus” it into a more immersive and visually substantial anchor for the wider mini-land.
AI Generated Concept ArtIndiana Jones Dark Ride
The Indiana Jones dark ride in California has been a fan-favourite attraction for years, and this concept imagines a new version built for Paris. Guests begin by queueing through the expedition base camp before boarding a Jeep that will carry them down into the temple to meet Indy.
The journey quickly goes wrong. The driver takes a wrong turn in the labyrinthine ruins and triggers a booby trap, sending the vehicle deeper into the darkness. After a sudden crash, a low rumble begins. Torches burst into flame around a vast ceremonial chamber, revealing shadowy figures circling the Jeep with bows, spears, and bound captives.
At the centre of the room stands a shaman, illuminated by an eerie blue light and flanked by fire bowls burning with blue-green flames. He begins a ceremony in English and French, making it clear that the guests are to be offered as a sacrifice. As lights swirl around the vehicle and it begins to move toward the altar, Indy intervenes with a gunshot and shouts for the guests to follow him.
The Jeep spins away, arrows streak across the walls, and the escape becomes increasingly frantic. After a dangerous crossing over a swaying bridge, guests finally catch up with Indy, who directs the driver toward a final route out of the temple and back to safety. The ride concludes with Indy thanking the guests as they return to the expedition camp.
AI Generated Concept ArtInteractive Walkthrough Experience
The third attraction is an interactive walkthrough, casting guests as members of the expedition investigating one of the oldest parts of the temple. Rather than relying on speed or spectacle, this experience focuses on exploration, tension, and discovery.
Guests enter through an archaeologists’ camp and collect incomplete maps that can be filled in as they move through a maze-like network of chambers. In tone, the experience draws on the cave spaces around Pirates of the Caribbean, but reimagined through the lens of Indiana Jones and archaeological adventure.
Each chamber contains interactive elements that encourage guests to actively participate in the expedition. Puzzles might involve decoding fragments of ancient language, studying markings scratched into stone, revealing hidden details through projection mapping, or triggering moving walls and concealed doorways through physical interaction.
Solving these challenges rewards guests with new story information and access to secret spaces, making the walkthrough the attraction that exposes the temple’s deepest lore. It gives the land a slower, more exploratory counterpoint to the coaster and dark ride while making guests feel directly involved in uncovering the mystery.
AI Generated Concept ArtOne Cohesive Land
Each of the three attractions is designed to blend into the others, all contributing to the same shared story of the Temple of Peril and its excavation. The coaster offers speed and danger, the dark ride advances the narrative alongside Indy, and the walkthrough lets guests uncover the temple’s history through direct interaction.
Together, they turn the Indiana Jones corner of Adventureland into a single coherent place with stronger atmosphere, deeper storytelling, and more variety in how guests can experience it. The ambition is to create a mini-land that feels thrilling, immersive, and exploratory - one where every path, structure, and attraction supports the same adventure.
